FAQ

Help us Change a Child’s Life

There is a foster child crisis in Southern California.  Can you help?  Unfortunately, there are more children in need of homes than there are homes available.  Many people think that being foster parents is only for couples with an abundance of time.  At Hugs FFA, we need all kinds of people, with love to share.  We are currently accepting applications and scheduling interviews for parents.  Please contact us to find out how you can change a child’s life.

QUESTIONS WE ARE FREQUENTLY ASKED

Is being a foster parent only for married couples?

Single men and women, working couples, stay at home moms or dads, and grandpas and grandmas are just some of the people that can offer a safe and secure environment for children in need.

How long does it take to become a foster parent?

The average time that it takes to become a certified foster parent at Hugs FFA is about 45 days.

What kind of training do I need and where do I get it?

Training is provided by Hugs FFA at no charge and at convenient times.

What kinds of kids will I get?

Our goal at Hugs is to match kids and foster families in a way that benefits both.  When you become certified, we list information about the number, age, sex, and ethnicity you feel would be best for your situation.  Each individual placement is discussed thoroughly so parents can make an informed choice about each child in need.

I hate to ask, but, how much does caring for foster children cost? Can I get some financial help?

As everyone knows, caring for and devoting time to children does cost money.  With this in mind, Hugs provides a generous monthly allowance to help you provide for the kids.

I am a medical professional. How can I help kids in need?

Because Hugs is one of the few foster family agencies licensed to deal with “Special Health Care Needs” children, we always need homes that can provide special attention — from periodic medication to full time  care.

I’ve never been a parent. Do these kids come with instructions?

Better than instruction, we provide a full time coach in the form of a Certified Social Worker.  These professionals are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help, in addition to scheduled weekly visits.
